What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle form of energy healing involving light touch.  During a session, healing energy is directed from the practitioner to the client. Reiki is beneficial for relaxation and stress relief, to aid the healing process of illness and injury, and to support emotional healing.

Reiki translates as:
Rei: holy, nature spirit, gift
Ki: Energy

Reiki has no side effects or interactions, and may be used in conjunction with any other treatment, medication, or therapy.  This gentle therapy can be safely preformed on people who’s medical conditions could be complicated by massage or reflexology.  Reiki is not a substitute for other forms of care and is not a part of any religion.

What can I expect during a session?

Sessions are typically preformed on a treatment table, similar to what you would see in a massage therapist’s office; or on the floor using mats. Light touch is applied to the client’s body as the practitioner directs the flow of healing energy. In some cases, “hands-off-healing” may be used. The client may lay on their front, back, or side; and may use pillows or a face rest to maximize comfort.

Special accommodations can be made for those who are pregnant, disabled, or are subject to positional pain. You may sit in a chair, use additional pillows, or have your session preformed right in your wheelchair or hospital bed. For those with seizure disorders, sessions are typically done with the treatment table’s top laying directly on the floor surrounded by pillows in the event a seizure take place during a session. If you have these or any other health or comfort concerns, please alert us when booking your appointment so we may find a way to best suit your needs.

The Five Precepts

Mikao Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki, Usui asked his students to recite the following precepts twice a day;  once in the morning and once at night.

TODAY, I LET GO OF WORRY.

TODAY, I LET GO OF ANGER.

TODAY, I GIVE THANKS FOR MANY BLESSINGS.

TODAY, I WORK HARD AND HONESTLY.

TODAY, I AM KIND TO EVERY LIVING THING.
