Melissa Ameika, Reiki Master Teacher

Melissa Ameika began studying Reiki at The Reiki School and Clinic in 2005 to treat herself for chronic pain. Surprised by the level of emotional, physical and spiritual healing she found, she decided to teach others. Melissa received her teacher certificate in June of 2009.  A strong advocate for holistic integrative medicine, Melissa has volunteered giving Reiki to shelter animals in Philadelphia’s PACCA facility and cancer patients at the Abramson Cancer Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

How do you offer your services so affordably?

I select locations based on their proximity to people we seek to serve. Since commercial and residential rental levels are usually similar, we can  provide high quality, affordable services to the community we wish to serve in the very part of the City in which they already live.   Rather than a portion of your tuition going to a nameless landlord, it goes to support practitioners, teachers, and support staff who seek to work in their own neighborhoods, treating their neighbors at a price they can afford while earning a fair, honest wage.

Additionally,  we forgo some of the amenities you may find elsewhere.
For example,  there are no candles or incense for private sessions.
For classes, there are limited if any massage tables available to practice on, instead using cots, inflatable mats, or floor cushions.  Think of it as “getting back to our roots”-Reiki was-and still is- traditionally taught and practiced in Japan on straw floor mats  called “tatami”.
